Dr. Godfred Scali Agodzo, Board Chairman of the National
Lotto Authority (NLA), said the Authority which was established 50 years ago,
was poised than ever to become one of the leading revenue mobilization
institutions in the country for development.
He said the authority had made a mark in the country
as one of the best revenue generation institution and would endeavour to move
further and generate more revenue.
According to Dr.Agodzo, the NLA was currently generating
GHC5.0 million per week but the Board and Management were poised to generate to
GHC6.0 million by the end of the year.
The Board Chairman of NLA, made these observation
during a mini-ceremony to launch the NLA’s 50th anniversary celebration and to out-door
the anniversary logo at the weekend in Accra.
He said, though the NLA had had challenges in its
attempt to generate more revenue for the nation for the past years, it now has the
capacity to grow to become the nation’s building financier.
He noted that in order for the authority to attract
more customers, it would make itself visible in terms of its corporate social responsibility
and extend its glory with the rest of the country by supporting developmental projects.
Dr Agodzo, however, noted that, the authority would be
able to achieve its social responsibility base on the agreement and discussions
with the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning and other relevant stakeholders.
He therefore, charged staff of the authority to
rededicate themselves and continue to
work harder, saying that the financial growth of the authority would by far
extension improve their condition.
“To my able staff, I know you have work hard for the
past years, but I want to note that, if the authority is healthy, you will also
be catered for,” the board chairman noted.
According to him, it was essential for the staff to
know the aims and objectives of the NLA, saying the aims and objectives of the
authority should be guiding principle for them to work hard to achieve the targets
goal.
He also urged the staff, to use the 50th anniversary
celebration of the authority to rejuvenate their rich experiences and drives
the NLA forward in its revenue generation capacity.
Dr Agodzo, stated that, there was the need for all
staff to educate and sensitize the general public about the good opportunities
in the lottery industry and not to engage in illegal lottery.
He said the NLA, which had been established in 1962,
under the vision of the first former president, the late Osagyefo Dr. Kwame
Nkrumah, had not been able to realize its dreams as set out, hence the review
of its mandate in 2006, through Act 722.
The NLA, according to the board chairman, would soon
roll out exclusive and more exciting games to boost it market sales.
Mr. Kojo
Andah, Director-General of NLA, in his opening remarks said he was happy that the
NLA had chalked successes in its operations over the years and commended staff
for their hard work.
He said the 50 anniversary celebration was not only
for the authority to share its glory, but to as well take stock and use the
rich experience the staff gained for the
past years to move the authority forward.
The NLA, according to Organizers of the 50 Anniversary celebration, would embark on a
clean-up exercises, a health walk and
floats throughout the country, health screening of staff, Media- fora, blood donation exercise, donation to some needy institutions and to also hand
over a library complex to the people of
Adenta, in Accra.
