Hon. Daniel Amartey Mensah, the out-going Municipal
Chief Executive for Ledzokuku-Krowor Municipal Assembly (LEKMA) in the Greater
Accra Region, has been honored for his meritorious services and developmental leadership
style during his tenure as MCE by the Urban Road Department of the Ministry of
Roads and Highway.
The honoure which was presented to him by the Chief
Director of the Ministry of Roads and Highways was in recognition of his
managerial competencies and the relentless efforts in the assistance to the
assembly to acquire graders to facilitate the urban roads work and a Total
Station for surveying works for the unit of LEKMA.
The award
came with a citation espousing the leadership and excellent human relationship
credentials of Mr. Amartey Mensahi.
The citation presented read: “Even though there have
been many political leaders before you, together with your contemporaries, you
are the first municipal chief executive (MCE) to merit this award from the
department of urban roads.”
The citation described the former LEKMA boss as extraordinaire MCE with an accomplished
leader of Ledzokuku –Krowor
Municipal Assembly which is unprecedented feats in the history
of the department of urban roads.
The citation further read: “As the MCE for LEKMA,
you have assisted the roads unit of the assembly (LEKMARU) to acquire a Grader
to facilitate the roads unit works. Besides, you acquired a Total Station for
surveying works for the unit. This has helped in getting most of the roads
designed before construction.
Your total understanding of issues of the roads
sector together with your contribution at meetings makes those who meet you at
the first time enquire later if you are an engineer. Hon Dan Amartey, as we
affectionately call you, your managerial style –an open door type makes you accessible
to the staff of the roads unit. “
It added , “Your immense contribution on the
widening of La-Teshie Beach Road project through advocacy , support when the
need arose , presence at site meetings, addressing the challenges of contractor
that were within your reach together with your personal interest have greatly
assisted in getting projects to its stages. Hon Amartey, you are MCE
extraordinaire.”
The Chief Director of the Ministry of Roads and
Highway, Dr. D.D Darku who presented the award, said Mr. Amartey Mensah has
distinguished himself as a leader par excellence and is deserving of the honour.
Receiving the award, he said: “I am very happy to be
a recipient of this prestigious award. I hope this award will spur me on to
work harder and do more to benefit LEKMA and Ghana as a whole.”
In addition, at a staff durbar to officially
announce his exist from the assembly,
the out-going MCE for LEKMA, Hon. Amartey Mensah called on the working
staff of the assembly to continue to work for the interest of the assembly to
in order to improve the lives of the people.
He said though his tenure was not the best, he believes
the four years he served as MCE has witnessed remarkable development through
the support he had from the staff.
According to him, unity and teamwork was paramount
and that the staff should remained steadfast and give their support to whoever
takes over from him as MCE in order to achieve the target goals of the
assembly.
He noted that during his period of work as MCE the
assembly took some decision that lead to the dismissal and interdiction of some
staff due to financial malpractices that they were involved, adding that those
decisions were taking to serve the interest of the assembly.
Mr. Amartey Mensah expressed his appreciation of the
cooperation and assured the staff that he would continue to offer his experts
support to the assembly at whenever needed, adding that he would never turn his
back to the needs of the people of LEKMA where he has worked for the past four
years.
The Municipal coordinating Director, Mr Armah
Ashitey, who has also handed over his mandate to Mrs. Moira Ewua , urged the
staff to continue to render their selfless services to the assembly.
He said the Assembly has exhibited much commitment
and devotion to improving the lives of people living in and around the
municipality.
