The
Management of National Lottery Authority (NLA) on Monday donated blood storage refrigerators purchased at the cost of GHC192, 855.00 to six health institutions .
The
move is to help the health institutions to overcome the problems associated
with the storage and preservation of blood.
The
Director General of NLA, Brigadier General Martin Ahiaglo, said calls from
health institutions for people to donate blood to various health institutions would
amount to nothing if the blood is not stored and preserved well.
The
NLA boss noted that the institutions were selected based on its business
strategy of rewarding communities that patronizes the NLA games and activities
and also to encourage other communities endemic with illegal lottery activities
commonly called Banker-Banker so that they come on board and play the lawful
games with NLA and contribute to the development of the country.
The
institutions that benefited from the gesture are Father Thomas Alan Roony
Memorial Hospital at Asankragua in Western region, Lawra District Hospital in Upper West region and Akatsi District
Hospitakl in Volta region.
The
rest are Kumasi Military Hospital in Ashanti region, Atibie Governement
Hospital at Mpraeso in the Eastern region and Princess Marie Children Hospital
at James Town in the Greater Accra region.
Ms Sherry Ayittey, Minister for
Health, who received the refrigerators for onwards distribution to the
beneficial institutions expressed her appreciation to the NLA for contributing towards
quality health delivery, especially in the deprived areas of the country.
